Handmade Notecards ...

I've finally gotten my act together to get this posted. It is such a fun little project. I love this idea and use it all the time.

When you're done here, go on over to Kisses of Sunshine and see what GiBee has for you.

My friend bb is the one who is so creative. Every good idea I have ever had has been stolen from someone. The best ones have been stolen from her. This is one she taught me via email a few years back and I have had some great fun with it ever since.

Here is the stuff you will need. And some of it you can really do without. The limits to this are your own creativity ... or whatever you can steal.

First, decide on the design you want, and whether or not it will be done with fabric or paper, or both. Then you can determine which of these supplies you need. Skip the ones you don't.

Scraps of fabric.

Or paper. I am using scrapbook paper to demonstrate. But I have saved cute cards and reused them, bought gift bags that had great pictures, even used wrapping paper. If you have them, you can use the amazing cutting tools that make the job easier. If not, you can use scissors.

Blank cards and envelopes. I get mine at Michael's for 40% off with their coupon. I stock up for a couple of weeks, every year about now, so that I am ready when the creative juices flow.

Wonder Under. This suff really is a wonder that you put under things. I have used it for about 20 years. You can make an applique job a lot easier with it. But that is for another time. You can get this at your local crafts store. They sell it by the yard, or in the package.

It is made up of two parts. The netty, see through part is the shiny side, and it is what you will put up against the WRONG side of your fabric and/or paper.

OK. Step one is that you iron the shiny side of the Wonder Under to the wrong side of your fabric. Don't worry, just follow the directions on your package. The paper side will still be attached. Don't peel it off. Do it all together and don't over do it. It sticks nicely.

Make sure you find the inside and outside of your pre-made cards. I am demonstrating the decorating on the outside. You can put things in the inside if you want to. Just make sure you know which is which so the card will fold the way you want it to.

Inside.

Outisde. See what I mean?

Measure up what you will need for the card. Or cut the smaller shapes you want. Just make sure it is all going to fit where you want it to.

Cut the fabric piece you want, and peel off the paper backing from the Wonder Under side.

Go ahead. Peel it all off. You will find the fabric is still floppy but it has a film on the wrong side. That is what you want.

It even looks a little milky-like.

Now put that fabric piece where you want it. I am doing a very easy-to-see example, just for the sake of learning.

It will be just sticky enough to sit where you put it without moving around.

Iron it carefully. I try not to iron the card too much. And you may want to turn off the steam option so that the paper does not get to saturated.

See ... it sticks!

If you like paper rather than fabric, you can do the same. Just set the iron lower. Iron the Wonder Under on the wrong side of the paper product, and do it quickly as it will not take much.

You can see the Wonder Under on the under side of the craft paper.

Use your fancy cutting supplies to do what you like. Or use a scissors.

Measure up what you need on your card, and trim it to fit.

Pull away the backing paper.

Iron it just like you did the fabric.

Here you go. One example of how you can do this.

Here are some others.

They can be made into blank notecards and given as a gift. I usually tie a ribbon around four of them, include the envelopes, and they make a nice little something for someone special.

Becky, those are so cute! I would NEVER have thought of using Wonder Under. If you use it on fabric, then adhere the fabric to other fabric, is it stiff?

What a great gift idea!!

I may have to try it. Not that I have time, but its such a great idea for those people who are impossible to find the right gift!

And its so personal and pretty. I will post the pictures of the final product. :)

Yes, enter my name to win these. Oh sorry, wrong post. These are just too cute. I think you need to publish your own book of great ideas. I wish we were neighbors so you could give me lessons.

Guess what? I actually get how to do this. I worked with Wonder Under years ago and I could actually follow every single step. Hooray!

Okay, now I am officially feeling like a real slug. I keep hoping my creative juices will start flowing again when I'm retired next fall, but I KNOW I'll never get this creative - ever. They are adorable!

Adorable! I'm sorry to say they will probably never be made at the House of S! I can only hope to be so crafty! I don't have the patience for such precise work. I'm a "wanna be" big time crafty person.

Well Becky, you've come up with another great idea. I often learn something new when I visit your blog. I used Wonder Under back in my sewing years, but never ever thought of using it on designing greeting cards. You are so clever! This would be much simpler and faster than the rubber stamped cards I have made in the past! Hmmmm...creative juices are flowing...

What a great idea, especially for us non-crafty girls. I think even my 9 year old could do this with some supervision around the iron. ;)

Such an adorable idea! I never knew you could use Wonder Under on paper - I had only used on in fabric when I appliqued stuff. I love this - I think my girls and I will have to make some cards. Yours are beautiful.

Hey Becky,
I came over to tell you that yes, that's our home on my header. It was back in the spring, so I attempted to age the picture for fall. I hope to get some dusk pictures after decorating for Christmas and use them. If not, I'll just use the Victorian pictures of my grandmother's home.
Thanks for noticing!
